Letting Go Of Past Sadness

I realized the other day I was holding on to some past sadness.

It was serving as a crutch. It was holding me up by holding me back. It was making me safe by keeping me from moving forward.

Let’s tap for old emotions that we haven’t let go.

I recognize the fact…That I’m holding on to some old emotions…From moments in the past…Some of them are in the recent past…And some of them are in the distant past…Even though these emotions are unpleasant…Even though these emotions aren’t my favorite thing…There’s part of me that still clings to these emotions…There’s a part of me that still holds on to it…The sadness that I hold on to…Is part of the way that I show the old moment is important…Because the sadness is a lament…It’s a part that’s pointing to what is missing…It’s the part that’s pointing to what is not there…And because I’m paying attention to what I’ve had lost…I’m showing that it means a lot to me…And so I stay stuck in the sadness…To keep giving that moment power and strength…I can honor the past…I can say things are significant…Without having to get stuck or caught…In any sort of sadness…I give myself permission…To breathe energy into this sadness…To acknowledge it for what is…Knowing that I don’t have to stay with it…Knowing that I don’t have to stay in it…I can honor and respect all those things I’ve lost…Without having to be stuck in this sadness…For those losses.
