When we share our goals we give other people the opportunity to evaluate our efforts. If they know what we are working toward, they will also know how far away we are from achieving that goal.
Feeling like others are judging us can make us hesitant to state our goals.
Today we are going to tap for the times we hold ourselves back because we fear how others will judge our progress.
When Others Know My Goals They Will Judge My Efforts And My Progress
(audio 4m27s)
I know it is useful to state my goals…I know it is useful for others to know what I’m moving towards…It helps to hold me accountable…And it’s also nice to have others knowing what I’m up to…They can be encouraging…And they can be supportive…But there is a part of me…That is worried that when they know what I’m up to…They now have the opportunity to judge me…They can judge how hard I’m working…They can judge how focused I am…They can judge how effective I am at any particular task…By stating my goals to others…It feels like I’m opening myself to scrutiny…It feels like I’m opening myself to judgment…But I recognize the fact…That most of the people in my life want what’s best for me…Most of the people in my life want me to be happy…Most of the people in my life want me to move forward in an effective way…I give myself permission…To know that it is OK for others to know what I’m up to…Improving my life…Is more important than what other people think…Moving at the pace that will allow me to be effective…Is more important than what others think of my actions…People have thoughts about what I need to do…People have opinions about how I’m moving forward…But what is much more important…Is taking action in such a way…That I continue to move forward…My action is more important than their opinions and their thoughts.
