It is easy to feel greedy and ungrateful when we want more or better, as if we are devaluing what we already have. We ask ourselves, “If what I have is so great why would I want more or better?”
In reality it is possible to appreciate what we have AND work towards more and better.
Today we are going to tap to hold space for both of those feelings at the same time.
Wanting Better Means That I Am Being Ungrateful For What I Already Have
(audio 4m38s)
There’s a part of me that definitely wants better…There’s a part of me that certainly wants more…That I can see the things that I want to change…And I can recognize how I want to move forward…But the problem is…I start to worry that I am not appreciating…Everything that I have right now…It feels like when I say I want more…What I’m saying is what I have right now is not enough…And I know I have it good…It’s far from perfect…But it’s so much better…Than what most people in the world experience…And part of me…Just doesn’t want to forget that…And just doesn’t want to let that go…But I recognize the fact…It is possible for me…To have these two things happen simultaneously…That I can be fully present and appreciate what I have…And strive for better…And work for more…Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive…I can appreciate what I have…And know that what I have is really good…And still see the parts that I want to change…And still see the ways that I want to move forward…When I appreciate what I have…I move from a place of gratitude…And when I move from a place of gratitude…It makes it easier for me to make good choices…It makes it easier for me to see the right path…Because I know what I have is good…It gives me a firm foothold to see what is better…Not to be in a rush…Not to be in a hurry…But to see what is possible…I can appreciate what I have…And strive for better…Striving for better does not negate my gratitude…My gratitude helps me to strive for better.
