From my own experience, what Saint Teresa of Ávila says is true: “To reach something good it is very useful to have gone astray, and thus acquire experience.”
Today we are going to tap to be gentle with ourselves when we go astray, and to be open to what can be learned when we do.
I Have Failed At Learning New Things In The Past
(audio 3m45s)
There’s a part of me that wishes that it always worked out…There’s a part of me that always wishes it was perfect…There’s a part of me that wishes that every action I took created exactly what I wanted…It’s good to have expectations…It’s good to have dreams…It’s good to have something that I’m moving towards in a very specific, deliberate way…And it’s not always going to work out…It’s not always going to be perfect…Things will go wrong…And I will go down the wrong path…But every time I do that…There’s going to be value…There’s going to be a lesson…I’m going to learn something about myself…I’m going to learn new skills…I’m going to gain experience which creates a sense of contrast…So that as I move forward…The next time…I will approach things in new ways…This doesn’t mean that I’m courting failure…This doesn’t mean that I’m courting detours…This doesn’t mean that I’m going to be stuck on purpose…It simply means I know there is value in these things…It simply means that I appreciate the fact that there’s a different way…When I go astray…When I go off my path…I will certainly try to find my way back…I will certainly try to find the way…To put myself in a position…Where success is possible…But when this happens…When I go astray…When it doesn’t work out…I recognize the value…It can provide…As I move forward.
