After the initial release of the goal setting tool in the kickstarter materials there were two common questions/concerns:
- Having goals creates a lot of pressure, making me feel like I am failing.
- What can I do if I am having a hard time coming up with good, clear goals? I know I want better than right now, but I am still not sure what I want, much less how to create a timeline or make my goals measurable.
These are really great questions and here are two simple things you can add which will make a huge difference.

Wouldn’t It Be Cool If
Whenever I am feeling under a lot of pressure to reach a certain goal I make it into something that is not a goal. Instead I change it into something that is a desire to strive towards so it doesn’t feel so heavy.
To do this I add the phrase, “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” to the front of the goal. The goal “I will weigh 175 lb by February 15th so that I have more energy and feel better” feels so much better as “Wouldn’t it be cool if I weigh 175 lb by February 15th so that I have more energy and feel better.”
It makes it so much lighter.
Work In Progress
Your goal list is a work in progress. It always will be. As time goes on and you reach your goals, your goals will evolve and change as you grow.
When I am working on my goals I like to add “Work In Progress,” or “WIP” for short, to the top of my goals list. This helps me to be easier with myself and to know it is OK if the goal list isn’t perfect, or perfectly defined.
Let yourself know that your goals are a work in progress and this will make it easier for you to work with them.
